Toyland Express event steams into The Workshops Rail Museum

Imaginations of young visitors and the young at heart are encouraged to step into the magical world of toys this autumn at The Workshops Rail Museum’s Toyland Express from 31 March to 15 April 2012.

The Workshops Conductor is welcomed back to lead those young and old imaginations through adventurous stories from the past and favourite Queensland trains.

Director of The Workshops Rail Museum Andrew Moritz said Toyland Express is an opportunity for children to flex those creative story time muscles and enjoy being a child.

“This event sums up why it’s so fun to be a kid as it allows those young imaginations to indulge in the world of toys and create their own stories,” Mr Moritz said.

“Parents might even spoil themselves by recalling fun childhood memories of their favourite toys.”

Young visitors can step into The Toy Box and enjoy discovering all their favourite toys, plus dress up as an engine driver, train conductor, ticket seller and more.

Bookworms can delve into another world by reading much loved train stories in the children’s library.

Toyland Express wouldn’t be complete without the opportunity to become an honorary toy maker and create Toyland inspired artwork using recycled materials.

In what could be described as an adults’ toy box, visitors can also take a Heritage Railway Workshop Tour to see where the ‘big kids toys’ are maintained in the historic Blacksmith and Steam Shops tours. Enclosed footwear is required.

To warm up imaginations for stories of charming trains, experience the magic first hand with a journey on the heritage Toyland Express Steam Train from Roma Street station to The Workshops Rail Museum platform, on Wednesday 4 April. Return to Roma Street station is by chartered bus, extra charges apply and bookings are essential.

The Workshops Rail Museum, celebrating 10 years this year is winner of Australian and Queensland Tourism Awards for Heritage and Cultural Tourism, and is part of the Queensland Museum network celebrating 150 years in 2012.
