Peninsula, OH. – Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) will be holding two Summer Season Kick-Off events June 2nd , 2012 at the Rockside Station in Independence, and the Akron Northside Station.
The event will be held to celebrate CVSR’s 40th Anniversary and the expanded summer season Scenic schedule. Those that attend will enjoy music from the 1970’s, trivia contests, activities for kids, and hamburgers and hotdogs sold at 1972-pricing.
The expanded summer season for the Scenic Excursions includes departures from the Rockside Station at 9 am, 12:45 pm and 4:05 pm and the Akron Northside Station at 10:40 am and 2:25 pm. There are additional stops in-between within Cuyahoga Valley National Park, including Peninsula, Indigo Lake to visit Hale Farm & Village, Canal Visitor Center and Brecksville. A train also departs from the Canton Lincoln Highway Station and travels to Akron Northside and back in June, July and August.
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad provides transportation to and within Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) under a joint operating agreement and is dedicated to the preservation of passenger rail transportation in Cuyahoga Valley and along the historic Ohio & Erie Canalway. CVSR is a private sector, not-for-profit 501 c (3) volunteer supported organization. The railroad serves 200,000 passengers annually and has a $3 million operating budget. Scenic train excursions are offered twelve months of the year, along with a variety of special events, including The Polar Express™, Day Out With Thomas™, wine-tasting and beer tasting excursions, Bike Aboard!, and more.
